Salt Lake Valley, Mountain valley in Salt Lake County, United States.
Salt Lake Valley is a broad depression between mountain ranges, bounded by the Wasatch Mountains to the east and the Oquirrh Mountains to the west. The landscape opens toward the Great Salt Lake to the northwest and creates a flat floor surrounded by rising slopes.
The valley was long used as hunting grounds by Ute and Shoshone peoples before Mormon pioneers arrived in 1847 and began to settle the area. That arrival marked the start of European-American presence and fundamentally changed how people used the landscape.
The valley is home to multiple suburban communities that together form a metropolitan region reflecting different ways of living. People use this area for everyday activities, and the place connects traditional settlements with newer growth.
The valley is easily accessible from all sides and suits visitors with different interests, whether exploring nature or visiting urban areas. The varying elevations and terrain offer different options depending on the season and what you prefer to do.
Twin Peaks rise within the valley and serve as widely visible natural landmarks for the surrounding communities. These distinctive summits are visible from many parts of the valley and shape how people see the landscape.
