Rock Creek Station and Stricker Homesite, Historic frontier outpost in Hansen, Idaho
Rock Creek Station is a historic frontier outpost in Hansen, Idaho featuring a stone store building, wooden house, pioneer cemetery, and several agricultural structures from the 1800s. The buildings are spread across the grounds and show the different functions needed to run a way station.
The station developed at the crossing of the Oregon Trail and Kelton Road and became the largest way station between Fort Hall and Fort Boise. This strategic location made it a vital supply point for thousands of travelers heading west in the 1800s.
The site tells the story of how settlers lived and worked through its original buildings and the objects they left behind. The craftsmanship and materials show the practical skills needed to survive on the frontier.
The grounds are open daily for self-guided exploration of the outdoor areas and building exteriors. On Sundays from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, guided tours of the interiors are available, allowing closer inspection of the historical details.
The property preserves 1,600 feet (490 meters) of original trail ruts from the Oregon-California Trail, showing where wagons rolled daily across the grounds. These visible grooves in the earth are silent witnesses to the countless hooves and wheels that traveled this route over many decades.
