Sostra

Sostra is a Roman fortress near Lomets positioned strategically along the Osam River valley. The ruins display stone walls, water pipes, street fragments, and ancient sanitary systems that reveal how people lived in this military outpost.

Romans built this fortress in the 2nd century BC as an important link between military and trade regions. The site remained active for a long period as a control point in the valley.

The site served as a crossroads where travelers and merchants moved between regions for centuries. Archaeological discoveries show that people left behind coins, pottery, and objects from everyday life.

The site is visible from the railway track with road signs marking the route between Troyan and Lovech. Wear sturdy shoes as the ground is uneven and there is minimal built-in support or facilities at the location.

Silver coins and a Thracian mask were discovered here, revealing trade connections with distant cultures. These objects offer clues about the diverse links this place maintained during its peak years.
