Covered Bridge

This timber covered bridge in Lovech spans approximately 106 meters across the Osam River, linking the historic Varosha district with the town's newer sections. The structure features shops integrated along its length and displays traditional wooden construction methods throughout its design.

Master builder Kolyu Ficheto completed the original wooden structure in 1874, with local residents contributing labor and funds for its construction. The bridge was later rebuilt while maintaining its core character and its role as a vital connector across the river.

The bridge houses small shops where artisans sell traditional Bulgarian crafts, jewelry, and regional products to people passing through. These vendors have operated here for generations, making the space a living marketplace rather than just a crossing.

The bridge is accessible on foot from the town center and can be visited free of charge throughout the day. It is best to walk across during daylight hours, as evening lighting is limited, and visitors should be prepared for uneven surfaces underfoot.

The original structure was adorned with four decorative elements: a lion sculpture, a two-headed eagle, a female figure, and an Ottoman mace. These ornaments reflect the region's cultural history and represent the artistic craftsmanship of that era.
