Virgen del Socavon Santuary Cable Car

The Virgen del Socavon Sanctuary Cable Car is an aerial lift that connects two stations and carries passengers up the hillside in a few minutes. The system operates with multiple cabins suspended from cables that run between support towers and offer views during the ascent.

Construction of the system began in 2015 and was completed a few years later, opening to the public in early 2018. The project represented a major infrastructure investment for the city.

The shrine serves as a major pilgrimage destination where visitors come to pray and leave offerings throughout the year. During Oruro's carnival season, the sanctuary becomes especially crowded as locals and travelers ascend to pay respect to the Virgin.

The cable car is straightforward to use, with clear stations at the bottom and top, and the ride takes only a few minutes to complete. Visiting early in the day or outside the carnival season helps you avoid crowds and enjoy a more comfortable experience.
