Arcadian Court, Art Deco restaurant in Downtown Toronto, Canada
Arcadian Court is an Art Deco restaurant located on the eighth floor of The Bay department store in Downtown Toronto. The space spans two levels with grand arches, wrought iron railings, and three skylights that flood the dining area with natural light.
The venue opened in 1929 as the largest dining establishment within a department store globally, representing the height of Art Deco architecture. It soon became a focal point for cultural events and gained international attention for significant broadcasts and auctions.
The name references ancient Arcadia, reflecting a longing for classical elegance that shaped Art Deco design. Visitors can observe the ornate details like wrought iron railings and grand arches that still convey this aesthetic today.
The space now operates exclusively as a private event venue managed by Oliver & Bonacini Events. Visitors should know that advance booking is required and access is primarily available to event guests.
The venue hosted the first radio broadcast of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 1929. Later it became the site of Sotheby's inaugural auction outside Britain in 1967.
