The Lake Shore Boulevard Bailey Bridge is a steel footbridge in Ontario that crosses Lake Shore Boulevard and connects Exhibition Place to the waterfront. The structure displays the characteristic lattice framework with diagonal bracing and open steel framework typical of its original engineering design.
History
The bridge was erected in 1952 by the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario using steel from Dominion Bridge Company. The structure was based on military engineering concepts developed during World War II for rapid field assembly.
Culture
The bridge stands as the last remaining Bailey Bridge in Old Toronto and maintains its place in the City of Toronto Inventory of Heritage Properties.
