The Needles Campground, Desert campground in San Juan County, United States.
The Needles Campground sits among red rock formations at about 4,900 feet elevation within Canyonlands National Park and provides 26 individual camping sites. The facility spans two separate loops that offer different camping options for various visitor preferences.
The National Park Service established this camping area to provide overnight accommodations for visitors exploring the surrounding desert landscape. Creating the site allowed the park to bring more people into one of the most remote regions of the Southwest.
This campground serves as a base for nature enthusiasts who gather to experience the geological formations and untouched wilderness of the American Southwest.
Before arriving, visitors should check which loop fits their needs, as Loop A operates without reservations while Loop B allows bookings up to six months ahead. Water is provided seasonally, and vehicles must not exceed 28 feet in length.
The two loops offer very different experiences depending on arrival flexibility. Many visitors do not realize that despite its remote location, the site provides access to some of the best hiking trails in Canyonlands.
