Oldenhorn, Mountain summit at Bern, Switzerland
Oldenhorn is a mountain summit in the western Bernese Alps rising to 3123 meters (10,246 feet), sitting at the border where three cantons meet. The peak stands above significant glaciers and mountain passes in the surrounding landscape.
The mountain became established as a key peak in mountaineering routes through the Diablerets massif. Its location at the meeting point of three cantons made it a natural landmark for alpine navigation and regional boundaries.
The mountain carries different names reflecting the region's linguistic divide. Local mountaineers and guides refer to it by various terms depending on which side of the cantons they approach from.
Access to the peak is possible via a mountain ridge route, with cable car support available from Col du Pillon to Scex Rouge. This infrastructure makes the climb manageable for hikers with alpine experience.
A mountain hut sits relatively close to the peak and serves as an important rest point for climbers on the route. Many visitors overlook this shelter when planning their ascent strategy.
