Mont Gond

Mont Gond is a mountain in the Valais Alps that rises to 2,710 meters and combines steep rocky faces with extensive grasslands across its slopes. The terrain features a mix of exposed rock sections and alpine meadows that display changing colors throughout the seasons.

The mountain was opened up by local climbers from Valais during the 19th century as the Alpine region became an increasingly popular travel destination. Early routes established here helped shape the development of mountaineering in Switzerland.

The mountain stands near the ancient Balavaux forest, where centuries-old larch trees hold deep significance in regional Swiss Alpine heritage.

The Tracouet gondola from Haute-Nendaz brings visitors to higher elevation and saves time on the climb. From there, marked trails lead to the summit, with the full route taking several hours and requiring sturdy footwear.

The summit area contains a natural formation known as the Jardin Japonais, where specific rock arrangements create patterns in the Alpine landscape.
