Peak Walk, Suspension footbridge at Glacier 3000, Switzerland
The Peak Walk is a steel suspension bridge spanning 107 meters between two mountain summits at 2971 meters elevation. It connects Peak viewpoint to Scex Rouge, creating an open path high above the surrounding landscape where you can see in all directions.
The bridge opened in October 2014 as the first pedestrian crossing to link two mountain summits in the Vaud canton. It was built to create a new way for people to experience the high mountain environment.
The bridge represents Switzerland's relationship with mountain landscapes, where engineering skill and respect for nature work together. Visitors experience how the region values making high-altitude places accessible while maintaining the wild character of the Alps.
The walkway is just 0.8 meters wide and stays open year-round regardless of weather or season. Visitors should wear proper footwear and be aware that the altitude, narrow space, and open drop below can be challenging for some people.
The structure withstands winds over 200 kilometers per hour thanks to four steel cables that support the full weight of the metal bridge and its users. Most visitors cross without realizing this engineering capacity exists beneath their feet.
