Kaiyuan Temple, Buddhist temple in Xiangqiao District, Chaozhou, China

Kaiyuan Temple is a Buddhist temple in Xiangqiao District, Chaozhou, with multiple halls arranged along a central axis. The main hall houses religious statues and artifacts that form the center of the complex.

The temple was founded in 738 during the Tang Dynasty and underwent several name changes before becoming Kaiyuan Temple. After extensive reconstruction in the 1980s, it received recognition as a National Key Buddhist Temple.

The main hall displays statues of Shakyamuni, Amitabha, and Bhaisajyaguru, with eighteen Arhats positioned on either side of the central altar. These arrangements reflect traditional Buddhist worship patterns that visitors encounter as they move through the space.

The temple functions as an active religious center and is accessible to visitors interested in understanding the layout of the halls. The central axis arrangement makes it straightforward to follow the structure and visit all main areas.

The temple houses a rare bronze bell from 1114 that stands about 1.7 meters tall and weighs more than 1,500 kilograms. This ancient bell represents one of the most remarkable treasures of the complex and remains a striking example of historical craftsmanship.
