Chater House, Office skyscraper in Central, Hong Kong
Chater House is a 30-story office tower rising in Central's business district overlooking three streets: Chater Road, Pedder Street, and Connaught Road Central. The glass facade defines the exterior, while the interior provides over 438,500 square feet of office and retail space.
Construction began in October 1998 and the building opened in March 2003. It replaced the former Swire House at this location and marked a major turning point in Hong Kong's financial district development.
The building is named after Sir Paul Chater, an influential figure in Hong Kong's past, and serves as home to major international financial firms. Visitors passing through the sleek lobbies can sense the connection to the finance world that defines the space.
The building has 16 public elevators and additional service facilities enabling quick movement through the space. Its location at the junction of multiple streets makes it easy to reach and it's a central hub within Hong Kong's business district.
The ground and lower levels house a three-level retail zone called Landmark Chater featuring shops and restaurants. This mix of offices and retail under one roof is uncommon for high-rises of this size in Hong Kong.
