Jardine House, Office skyscraper in Central, Hong Kong
Jardine House is a 52-story office tower in Central Hong Kong distinguished by 1,748 circular windows that create a recognizable pattern across its metallic facade. The building contains 24 elevators and connects to surrounding structures through the Central Elevated Walkway system, which links the district's major office buildings.
The building opened in 1973 as the Connaught Centre and achieved two distinctions: it was Hong Kong's first skyscraper and Asia's tallest building at that time. This construction marked a turning point in the region's approach to vertical development.
The circular windows earned the building a local nickname that playfully references its appearance, reflecting how residents have made it part of their everyday conversation. This shows how the structure became woven into the city's cultural fabric through simple observation and humor.
The building is easily accessible, and the elevated walkway system allows visitors to move through the area without descending to street level. This connection to surrounding structures makes it convenient for exploring the Central district on foot.
Local authorities restricted construction to the north of the site to preserve unobstructed views from the building's upper levels. This decision was made intentionally to protect the sight lines from the tower looking out toward the harbor.
