The building was constructed in 1958 under Central Development Limited and replaced the historic Hong Kong Hotel that previously occupied the site. The foundation stone was laid by Hui Oi-Chow, marking a new chapter in the district's commercial evolution.
The structure represents Hong Kong's commercial development, with its chairman belonging to one of the Four big families of Hong Kong.
The building is easily reached by public transport due to its prominent location at a major intersection. Keep in mind that most floors contain business offices and some areas may only be accessible during regular business hours.
The original stock certificates bore the signature of Kwan Fan-Fat, who owned Golden Dahlia, the horse that won the Hong Kong Derby in 1949. This connection reveals how Hong Kong's financial history intertwined with the city's racing heritage.
