Wheelock House, Commercial office building in Central, Hong Kong.
Wheelock House is a 24-story office tower at the corner of Pedder Street and Des Voeux Road Central, in the heart of Hong Kong's Central district. Each floor is given over to office space, and the building is home to financial firms and established companies.
A commercial building called Jardine House stood on this site from 1841, making it one of the earliest fixed business addresses in the city. The current tower was completed in 1984, designed by the firm Wong & Ouyang, and replaced earlier structures that had been rebuilt more than once.
Pedder Street, where the building stands, has long been one of the most recognizable addresses in Hong Kong's business world. Walking past the entrance gives a clear sense of how central this corner remains to the daily rhythm of the financial district.
The tower is a short walk from Central MTR station, making it easy to reach on foot from most parts of the district. As it is an active workplace, visitors can generally access only the ground-floor lobby area.
The plot of land on which the building stands has been used for commercial purposes almost without interruption since 1841, long before most of the surrounding towers existed. That makes this small corner one of the longest continuously used business sites in the whole of Hong Kong.
