Old Dairy Farm Depot, Grade II historic building in Central and Western District, Hong Kong
The Old Dairy Farm Depot is a brick and stucco building at 2 Lower Albert Road, featuring polychromatic brickwork and neoclassical design details. The structure comprises connected blocks with distinctive facades that reflect the architectural character of Hong Kong's historic Central district.
Built in 1890 as a cold storage warehouse for dairy products, the building expanded in 1913 to include a milk shop, storage room, and meat smoking facility. This growth reflected the expanding dairy industry in early 20th century Hong Kong.
The building houses the Foreign Correspondents' Club in the North Block and the Hong Kong Fringe Club in the South Block, where exhibitions, performances, and media events take place regularly. These spaces serve as gathering points for artists, journalists, and cultural professionals who animate the building with activity.
The building sits between Wyndham Street and Glenealy with multiple access points from different directions in Central. Visitors can explore the club spaces or attend cultural events and exhibitions that take place there.
The building received recognition through the Hong Kong Government Heritage Award for its remarkable transformation from a dairy facility into a thriving cultural center. This restoration preserves the original structure while creating new purposes for contemporary use.
