Mount Eolus, Mountain summit in La Plata County, US

Mount Eolus reaches an elevation of 4,295 meters and features dual summits within the San Juan Range of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.

The Wheeler Survey expedition of 1878 formalized the current spelling of Mount Eolus, which had been previously documented during the 1874 Hayden Survey.

The mountain bears the name of the Greek deity Aeolus, who controlled the winds according to classical mythology.

Access to Mount Eolus requires taking the Durango-Silverton railroad to Needleton, followed by a 6-mile hike to Chicago Basin base camp.

The Northeast Ridge route involves traversing the Catwalk, a narrow section combining Class 2 scrambling with Class 3 climbing segments.
