Mount Buckskin

Mount Buckskin is a mountain summit in the Mosquito Range that rises to about 13,865 feet and features two distinct peaks. A ridge connects these two points across roughly half a mile of high terrain.

The mountain was named after Buckskin Joe, a figure from Colorado's early settlement era. His name became tied to this ridge and remains part of the mountain landscape.

The mountain serves as a popular training ground where climbers build experience before attempting more challenging peaks nearby. It attracts visitors who want to test their skills on demanding terrain.

Access starts at the Kite Lake trailhead where parking and camping are available for visitors. Weather and trail conditions vary significantly throughout the year and should be checked beforehand.

From here climbers can traverse to Loveland Mountain, creating a unique three-peak route that differs from typical paths in the area. This connecting ridge offers an alternative way to link multiple summits.
