Pet Sounds Studio, Recording studio in Denver, United States
Pet Sounds Studio was a recording facility in Denver with distinct areas including a live room, control room, and two isolation booths designed for professional music production. The space contained professional equipment and acoustic treatment to support various types of musical recordings.
Pet Sounds Studio was established in 1997 by Robert Schneider of The Apples in Stereo and Jim McIntyre of Von Hemmling at 1170 Elati Street in Denver. The founders created a space that would become instrumental in recording the output of numerous musicians associated with the Elephant 6 collective.
The studio served as a gathering place for the Elephant 6 collective, a group of musicians who recorded experimental and lo-fi albums there. It became known for fostering a particular sound that reflected the creative vision of Denver's independent music scene.
The studio was located at 1170 Elati Street and provided separate rooms that helped minimize external noise during recording sessions. Musicians could choose between recording in the main space or using the isolation booths depending on the type of project they wanted to create.
Artist Steve Keene painted murals throughout the studio, originally created for a music video by The Apples in Stereo called Tidal Wave. These artworks transformed the visual appearance of the recording space and became part of the creative environment musicians worked in.
