555 17th Street is a 40-story, 507-foot (155 m) black glass-clad office tower in downtown Denver, completed in 1978. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, it contains Class A office space, a tenants' restaurant, a private club, and a conference center. The building is home to the headquarters of law firm Holland & Hart LLP, whose name appears on the east side.
The building opened in 1978 as the Anaconda Tower and held the title of Denver's tallest structure at that time. This status changed in 1981 when another skyscraper surpassed its height.
The building's name changed with its main tenant: it opened as the Anaconda Tower after the Anaconda Company moved its headquarters from New York to Denver in 1978, then became the Qwest Tower when Qwest took it as world headquarters in 1997. Two large blue Qwest signs lit the facade until the company left in 2000; they stayed up, dark for months, until removal in 2004. Holland & Hart's name now marks the east side.
The building sits on a city block with street-level access through multiple entrances. Visitors can find transit connections and parking nearby in the downtown area.
The building features advanced energy-saving technology including a large heat exchanger and modern lighting system built into its design. This forward-thinking approach to efficiency was ahead of its time when the building opened.
