The Avenue Theater is a theater at 417 E. 17th Avenue in Downtown Denver, Colorado, producing comedies, musicals, plays and improvisational comedy. It is home to the World Humor Organization (WHO) and Chicken Lips Entertainment. The venue has a stage and seating for live audiences, and its monthly radio show is recorded there the day before broadcast.

Robert Wells founded the Avenue Theater in 1985 at East 17th and Vine, 17 blocks east of its present site, and ran it for seven years. John Ashton took over in 1992 and closed the original theater in 2001, then spent two years finding a location and rebuilding. In spring 2003 he reopened it at 417 E. 17th Avenue with business partner Robert Roehl. In 2005 Wells and Dave Johnson bought it back and made it a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

The Avenue Theater is known for Radio Avenue, a monthly live comedy show recorded on stage and broadcast on KGNU radio. Attending a show here means being part of a live radio audience at the same time.

The theater is easy to reach on foot from nearby public transit stops, and parking is available in the surrounding area. Checking the event calendar ahead of your visit helps, as the program changes from month to month.
