Dog Bark Park Inn, Beagle-shaped bed and breakfast in Cottonwood, Idaho, US.
The structure rises 30 feet (9 meters) high along Highway 95 and was constructed in the form of a giant beagle. The building contains two guest rooms inside, with the dog's head serving as an observation platform. The exterior is finished with carved wood that replicates the characteristic features of the beagle breed, including the black and brown coat patterns.
Dennis Sullivan and Frances Conklin opened this establishment in 2003 after several years of planning and construction. The couple had previously gained experience building smaller wooden sculptures before undertaking this larger project. The building was recognized as the largest beagle structure worldwide and attracted overnight guests until its transformation into a roadside attraction in 2024.
The owners began their career as chainsaw artists creating hand-carved wooden dog figures before designing the beagle-shaped building. This work made the property a gathering point for travelers interested in American folk art and original architecture. The building has become a symbol of creative ventures in rural Idaho and continues to inspire other artists in the region.
The establishment along Highway 95 is open from spring through fall, with an adjacent gift shop selling hand-carved wooden dog figures. Visitors can park on nearby grounds and take photographs of the building's exterior. The area offers limited dining facilities, so travelers should bring provisions if planning extended stays in the vicinity.
The owners published a commemorative book titled 'Sweet Willy, a Noble & Absurd Undertaking' that chronicles the complete history of this unusual lodging chronologically. The name Willy refers to the imaginary beagle that the structure represents. The book includes construction blueprints, challenges during building, and anecdotes from guests who stayed overnight in the structure.

Alternative attraction parks around the world challenge traditional notions of entertainment by combining unconventional themes with recreational experiences. Rather than following established formulas of rides and characters, these destinations explore diverse subjects ranging from religious teachings and historical reflection to artistic expression and cultural commentary. They emerge from specific cultural contexts, historical circumstances, or creative visions that set them apart from conventional amusement parks. Examples span multiple continents and themes. Suoi Tien in Vietnam integrates Buddhist narratives with amusement park features, while Haw Par Villa in Singapore presents Chinese mythology through elaborate sculptural tableaux. Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi celebrates automotive engineering with the world's fastest roller coaster, and Grutas Park in Lithuania preserves Soviet-era monuments as an open-air museum documenting recent history. From the satirical art installation of Banksy's temporary Dismaland in England to the adult-oriented sculptures of Loveland on Jeju Island, these destinations offer experiences that provoke thought, preserve memory, or explore subjects rarely addressed in traditional entertainment settings. Each park invites visitors to engage with its particular focus in ways that differ substantially from typical leisure destinations.
This collection brings together locations that challenge the norms of conventional tourism. It offers the chance to discover places where nature, history, and human activities have created astonishing sites: a complex of 732 unfinished villas in Turkey, a Mexican island where hundreds of dolls are hung in trees, a Canadian lake with mineral-formed multicolored basins, and a Polish forest of 400 pines with mysteriously bent trunks facing north. The route also includes unique human-made creations, such as an art installation representing an isolated Prada store in the Texas desert, or the Japanese village of Nagoro where an artist populated the streets with 350 dolls after the residents left. Geological phenomena are also featured, including Darvaza crater in Turkmenistan, which has been burning continuously since 1971, the Great Blue Hole in Belize, a 124-meter-deep underwater cavity, and Colombia’s Caño Cristales river that changes color to red, yellow, and green from July to November. These destinations provide a different perspective on our planet and invite exploration of lesser-known facets of our world.
