Thompson Peak, Mountain summit in Sawtooth Range, Idaho
Thompson Peak rises to 10,751 feet above sea level, standing as the highest point in the Sawtooth Range within the Sawtooth National Forest.
The United States Board of Geographic Names officially recorded Thompson Peak in 1916, naming it after an early explorer who reached its summit.
The mountain attracts climbers from across the country who attempt its four established routes, ranging from South Couloir to the technical West Crack.
Access to Thompson Peak begins at Redfish Lake trailhead, requiring a 12.3-mile round trip with 4,035 feet of elevation gain through marked paths.
The summit provides views of Thompson Lake below, while the surrounding wilderness contains multiple alpine lakes and neighboring peaks in the Sawtooth Range.
