Ancient Order of Hibernians Hall

The Ancient Order of Hibernians Hall in Anaconda is a pressed brick building with sandstone, granite, and terra cotta details along East Commercial Avenue. The interior contains five retail spaces on the ground level, two facing Commercial Avenue and three along Cedar Street, with a lodge room above.

Construction began in 1896 and finished in 1899, with the original structure expanded to meet the growing needs of the organization. The project reflects the mining industry's growth and prosperity in the region during that early period.

The hall served as a gathering place for Anaconda's Irish-American community, which formed a significant portion of the city's population for decades. The building reflects how immigrant organizations shaped the social fabric of this mining town.

The site on East Commercial Avenue in downtown Anaconda is easily walkable and the corner location at Cedar Street makes it simple to find. As a historic building with multiple levels, expect older staircases when accessing the upper floor.

When completed in 1899, the building was among the rare structures west of the Mississippi River equipped with electric lighting and steam heating from opening day. These advanced systems were unusual for a mining town and show how prosperous and organized this community had become.
