Fort Shaw, Military fort and Indian boarding school in Cascade County, Montana.

Fort Shaw is a former military post and school site in Montana located on land along the Sun River. The location preserves buildings from different periods of its history, spanning from its years as a military base to its use as an educational facility.

The site was established in 1867 and began as a military post before being converted into a school for Native American children. It operated in this educational capacity from 1892 until 1910.

The boarding school brought together children from different Native American nations who lived and studied together at the site. The buildings and grounds reflect how education shaped the lives of these young people during that era.

The site is accessible via Montana Highway 200 and features well-preserved buildings to explore. Visitors should allow time to walk through the various structures and grounds to get a complete sense of the location.

A basketball team from the school won a tournament at the 1904 World's Fair in Chicago. This achievement was remarkable for an institution of that time and remains a notable part of the site's history.
