Gunsight Mountain, Mountain summit in Glacier National Park, Montana, United States

Gunsight Mountain rises to 9,263 feet in elevation within the Lewis Range, featuring two distinct peaks and the Sperry Glacier on its northeast face.

Mountaineer Lyman Sperry completed the first documented climb of Gunsight Mountain in 1905, establishing its presence in the climbing community of Glacier National Park.

The mountain received its name from George Bird Grinnell in 1891 due to the configuration of its two peaks resembling a firearm sight from certain angles.

The ascent requires a 24-mile round trip starting at Sperry Chalet Trailhead near Lake McDonald Lodge, with a vertical gain of 6,105 feet through varied terrain.

The mountain contains sedimentary rock formations from the Precambrian to Jurassic periods, pushed upward by the Lewis Overthrust fault 170 million years ago.
