Frank Slide, Landslide site in Crowsnest Pass, Canada
The Frank Slide created a vast field of limestone rocks covering three square kilometers at the base of Turtle Mountain in Alberta.
On April 29, 1903, more than 82 million tons of limestone crashed down from Turtle Mountain, destroying part of the mining town of Frank.
The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre presents exhibits about mining communities, geological forces, and the impact of the disaster on local populations.
Visitors can access walking paths through the rock field, with guided tours available from April through October at the interpretive center.
Scientists continue monitoring Turtle Mountain using advanced technology to detect potential future movements of the unstable south peak.
