Grassi Lakes, Mountain lakes in Kananaskis Country, Canada.

Grassi Lakes is a pair of mountain lakes with clear blue-green water located in the Canadian Rockies near Canmore at an elevation of 1929 meters (6330 feet). Steep grey cliffs rise above them, creating a dramatic setting in this part of Kananaskis Country.

Lawrence Grassi built the original trail to these lakes after arriving in Canada in 1912, creating pathways that visitors still use today. His construction work shaped how people access this mountain location and became part of the area's heritage.

Rock paintings near the canyon above the lakes show that Kutenai ancestors lived in this region for generations. These marks tell visitors about the deep connection between Indigenous peoples and this landscape.

Two distinct routes lead to the lakes: an easier path following an old forest road and a more demanding trail offering waterfall views. Visitors can choose based on their fitness level and how much walking they prefer to do.

The grey cliffs above the lakes contain fossils of extinct stromatoporoid sponges from the Late Devonian period. These 75-meter (246-foot) high rock walls are living evidence of an ancient seabed that existed millions of years ago.
