Anû Kathâ Îpa, Mountain summit in Alberta, Canada.
Anû Kathâ Îpa is a mountain summit in the Fairholme Range near Canmore in the Canadian Rockies, located in Alberta. The peak stands at approximately 2,514 meters above sea level.
This summit previously carried a name considered offensive to Indigenous peoples. In 2020 the Alberta government officially renamed it following consultation with Indigenous groups.
The name Anû Kathâ Îpa was given by the Stoney Nakoda people to honor their traditional bond with this land. You see this name on signs and maps today as a reflection of that connection.
Access to the summit is via a moderate scrambling route starting from Harvie Heights and following the Northwest ridge. The climb requires some experience and good weather conditions for safe travel.
The rock formation creates the silhouette of a person lying down when viewed from specific angles. This natural optical effect is often overlooked by visitors exploring the area.
