Kinbrook Island Provincial Park, Provincial park on Lake Newell in Alberta, Canada
Kinbrook Island Provincial Park is a natural area along the eastern shore of Lake Newell with forested zones and waterfront sections. The landscape includes mixed habitats of woodland, wetland, and open shoreline that support diverse wildlife.
The park was created in 1951 following the completion of Bassano Dam in 1914, which flooded the lake basin. This development turned a dry landscape into a water body that later became a place for recreation.
The park attracts birdwatchers from across the region who come to observe over 270 bird species in their natural habitat. Walking trails guide visitors through different landscapes where birds can be spotted throughout the seasons.
The park provides more than 160 campsites with electrical hookups and has bathrooms and showers available for guests. Supplies and additional services are accessible in nearby Brooks when you need them during your stay.
Lake Newell stays warmer than other lakes in southern Alberta, making swimming refreshing during the summer season. This temperature difference makes the water more inviting for activities compared to nearby alternatives.
