St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church

St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church is a church building in Midnapore with a steeply pitched gable roof, central steeple, and pointed arch windows. The structure displays Carpenter Gothic architectural features, with vertical lines and delicate proportions typical of early church design in Alberta.

The church was built in 1904 by local craftsmen after Patrick Glenn donated the land for construction. Father Albert Lacombe served as the first priest and oversaw the congregation until 1916.

The church is named after Saint Patrick and reflects the Irish Catholic community that shaped this area in the early 1900s. Today it serves the Russian Orthodox congregation, showing how religious communities in Calgary have changed over time.

The building is easily accessible from Macleod Trail and sits in an area with other religious sites nearby. The church is still active today, but check current usage times before visiting, as it now serves the Russian Orthodox congregation.

The building underwent major rehabilitation in 2011 to restore its original character while adapting it for continued religious use. This renovation allowed the historic structure to serve a new congregation while maintaining its architectural integrity.
