Pierre's Hole, Historic fur trading site in Teton Valley, Idaho, United States
Located at 6,109 feet elevation on the western slope of the Teton Mountain Range, Pierre's Hole encompasses a valley where the Teton River flows northward.
The 1832 Rocky Mountain Fur Company rendezvous at Pierre's Hole gathered over 1,000 trappers and Native Americans, with thousands of horses and mules for trading.
The valley received its name from Old Pierre Tevanitagon, an Iroquois Indian fur trapper who worked with the Hudson Bay Company in the early 1800s.
A historical marker stands at 263 Idaho Highway 33 in Driggs, Idaho, providing information about the fur trading period and the 1832 battle.
The site witnessed a significant battle between trappers and Gros Ventre Indians following a peace negotiation that ended with the death of a Blackfoot chief.
