Prince's Island Park, Urban park on an island in downtown Calgary, Canada.

This 50-acre (20-hectare) park sits on an island in the Bow River and features landscaped gardens, open lawns, wetlands, walking trails, playgrounds, and views of the city skyline.

The park was established in 1947 on land donated by the Prince family, honoring Peter Anthony Prince who founded the Eau Claire Lumber Mill in 1886 and helped develop early Calgary infrastructure.

The park hosts major community events throughout the year, including the Calgary Folk Music Festival, Shakespeare performances, Canada Day celebrations, and Heritage Day festivals that attract around 150,000 visitors annually.

The park is open daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and can be reached by pedestrian bridges from the downtown pathway system at 4 Street and 1 Avenue Southwest.

The park features the Chevron Learning Pathway, an educational trail surrounding a constructed wetland that treats stormwater before it flows back into the Bow River, teaching visitors about water quality.

Visiting Alberta: Glacial Lakes, Waterfalls, and Canadian Rockies Parks

Alberta offers a wide range of landscapes and activities, from Banff National Park with its turquoise glacial lakes to the geological formations of Jasper National Park. The province is home to natural sites such as Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, and Athabasca Falls, as well as the Glaciers Parkway that crosses the Canadian Rockies over 232 kilometers. The cities of Calgary and Edmonton enhance this selection with institutions like the National Music Centre at Studio Bell, the WinSport Olympic site, and the Edmonton river valley extending along the North Saskatchewan River. In the Drumheller area, the Royal Tyrrell Museum displays dinosaur skeletons found in the Alberta Badlands. This collection highlights the main places to visit in the province, from mountain areas to urban centers.
