New Cambridge Lofts, Residential complex in Downtown Edmonton, Canada.
New Cambridge Lofts is an 18-story residential complex on Jasper Avenue featuring units with high ceilings and large windows that frame city views. The building retains many original 1960s office-building features while providing contemporary living amenities and appliances for residents.
Completed in 1968 as an office building, the structure underwent extensive renovation to become a residential complex while retaining its original shell. The modernization of mechanical and electrical systems was essential to achieving this adaptive reuse transformation.
The building reflects how Edmonton's downtown has changed to attract residents back to the city center through adaptive reuse of older commercial structures.
The lower concourse connects directly to Central LRT station, giving residents protected access to public transportation throughout the city. The downtown location puts shops, restaurants, and other services within walking distance for daily needs.
Each residential unit preserves original architectural elements from the 1960s office building, giving the complex a hybrid character between old and new. This blend of historic details and modern comforts creates an unusual living space where past and present coexist.
