Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden

The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden is a 130-acre complex housing 2,000 animals from 500 species alongside gardens filled with native and international plant collections. The site combines zoo viewing with botanical exploration in one location.

The facility began in 1902 as Wheeler Park Zoo and was renamed Lincoln Park Zoo in 1920 before taking its current name. These name changes reflect its growth from a local park into a major recreational institution.

The Oklahoma Trails section displays native species such as black bears and bison, helping visitors connect with the region's wildlife and plant life.

The site is located in the Adventure District in northeast Oklahoma City with pathways connecting different areas throughout the grounds. Plan for a full day and bring water and sun protection, as you will spend considerable time outdoors.

The Butterfly Garden spans 21,000 square feet and holds over 15,000 plants supporting multiple butterfly species throughout their complete life cycles. This specialized area demonstrates the relationship between plants and pollinators in a remarkable way.
