Kongchogsaum Lhakhang, Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Bumthang, Bhutan.
Located at 27.5855° N and 90.7392° E, Kongchogsaum Lhakhang consists of a main sanctuary containing statues of Vairocana, Padmasambhava, and Avalokiteśvara.
The monastery dates back to the 8th century and experienced a significant fire in February 2010, leading to reconstruction efforts completed in November 2014.
The temple walls display paintings of religious figures including Pema Lingpa and Longchenpa, representing centuries of Buddhist artistic traditions in Bhutan.
The monastery requires visitors to obtain permits and dress appropriately in accordance with Buddhist customs before entering the sacred premises.
In 1039, tertön Bonpo Dragtshel discovered ancient texts at this site, where legend tells of a water deity emerging from a lake to present him with a stone pillar.
