Daniela is a sand beach in the Canasvieiras area of northern Florianópolis, sitting along a narrow peninsula that juts into the sea. The water is shallow near the shore and the sand is pale and fine, with the beach running for a few kilometers along a calm stretch of coastline.
The area stayed largely undeveloped until the 1970s, when the first houses began to appear along the shore. Over the following decades, it gradually grew into a residential beach neighborhood on the northern tip of the island.
Local fishermen work using traditional methods along the shore, and the mangrove forests nearby are an important part of the natural experience for visitors. The community values these coastal practices as a connection to the sea that has shaped daily life here.
The northern end of the beach has lifeguards during summer, but swimmers should be careful near the tip called Pontal where currents can pick up. It is worth checking conditions on arrival before going into the water.
The beach runs alongside the estuary of the Ratones River, where salt water from the sea meets fresh water coming in from the land. The mangrove forest that lines this meeting point is visible from the shore and marks a clear boundary between two very different environments.
