Praia dos Ingleses

Praia dos Ingleses is a sandy beach on Florianópolis Island in Brazil, stretching for about 5 kilometers along the coast. The conditions vary noticeably, with calmer waters in the southern portion and stronger surf conditions toward the northern end.

The beach takes its name from an English ship that wrecked somewhere between 1683 and 1737 on or near this shore. In 1989, divers located and recovered remains from the vessel, confirming the historical connection.

Fishing families have long practiced traditional mullet fishing methods here, shaping how locals relate to the water and the food they eat. The restaurants lining the shore reflect this heritage through fresh seafood that remains central to the local way of life.

The beach has excellent facilities including hotels, dining options, shops, and lifeguard stations along the shore. Regular bus service connects it to central Florianópolis, making access straightforward for visitors.

Archaeological digs in the area have uncovered artifacts from the sunken English vessel that gave the beach its name. These discoveries turn the shoreline into a place where past events remain tangibly present.
