Mindelo, Port city in São Vicente, Cape Verde
The main port of Mindelo sits on Porto Grande Bay, surrounded by Monte Cara and Morro Branco mountains to the west and Monte Verde to the east.
The settlement started in 1793 as Nossa Senhora da Luz, became a coal station for British ships in 1838, and received its current name after the Landing at Mindelo.
