Ciudad de la Paz, Capital city in Djibloho, Equatorial Guinea
Ciudad de la Paz is a planned capital city in mainland Equatorial Guinea that combines government offices with residential neighborhoods. The site sits at an elevation of 454 meters between the cities of Bata and Mongomo.
The city took over capital functions from Malabo in 2021, moving the seat of government from Bioko Island to the mainland. This decision marked a fundamental change in how the country organizes its administration.
The name translates to City of Peace in English, reflecting the government's vision when planning the administrative center. Visitors today see wide boulevards and modern government buildings organized in distinct zones across the site.
New highways link the city to Bata, Mongomo, and Mengomeyen Airport, which lies 20 kilometers (12 miles) away. The Grand Hotel Djibloho offers conference spaces and a golf course for visitors.
A Portuguese architecture firm called Future Architecture Thinking designed the entire urban layout from scratch. The tropical setting receives heavy rainfall throughout the year, keeping the surrounding vegetation green year-round.
