Prince's Palace of Monaco, Medieval fortress and royal residence in Monaco City, Monaco
The Prince's Palace occupies a commanding position on the Rock of Monaco, featuring medieval fortifications combined with Renaissance architectural elements and frescoed galleries.
Originally constructed as a Genoese fortress in 1191, the palace became the stronghold of the Grimaldi family in 1297 when François Grimaldi captured it.
The State Apartments contain collections of historical artifacts, including Italian Renaissance frescoes covering 600 square meters that remained hidden for five centuries.
The palace opens from April through August, with guided tours available in 11 languages and tickets priced at 10 euros for adults.
The Changing of the Guard ceremony occurs daily at noon in front of the palace, maintaining a tradition that draws visitors to the main square.
