The name Sonntagshorn derives from Sonnendach, meaning sun roof, referring to the mountain's gentle southern slope that receives extensive solar exposure.
Multiple marked trails lead to the peak, with the southern route through Heutal valley providing the most accessible path for regular hikers.
The mountain displays a remarkable prominence of 1,181 meters, making it the highest peak in the Chiemgau Alps range.
