Kellenspitze, Mountain summit in Tyrol, Austria
Kellenspitze is a mountain summit in the Tannheim Mountains of the Northern Limestone Alps. The peak can be reached by several marked routes that attract hikers and climbers of different skill levels throughout the year.
The peak was originally called Metzenarsch before being renamed Kellenspitze in 1854. The name change occurred during a visit by Prussian royalty to a hunting lodge in the area.
The mountain stands as part of the Lechtal Nappe geological formation, revealing layers of Wetterstein limestone and Partnach marl beds.
The best season for a visit is from June to September when most routes are snow and ice free. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for changing mountain weather conditions.
The mountain is composed of crumbly rock that makes it less suitable for technical climbing than other peaks in the region. Yet it remains popular with hikers seeking an easier alternative to demanding climbing routes.
