Furtschaglhaus, Mountain hut in Finkenberg, Austria.
The Furtschaglhaus is a mountain hut located at 2,295 meters (7,530 feet) in the Zillertal Alps, providing dormitory beds for up to 56 guests. It sits close to the Schlegeis Reservoir and serves as a base for climbs and hikes throughout the region.
The hut was founded in 1889 to shelter mountaineers and hikers in this remote alpine region. Since its establishment, it has been run and maintained by the Berlin section of the German Alpine Club, continuing its role as a vital mountain refuge.
The hut brings together hikers and climbers from around the world in its wood-paneled dining room, where people naturally gather to share stories and meals. It anchors the social fabric of this high mountain area and connects visitors through common experiences in the alpine environment.
Visitors can reach the hut on foot through a roughly 2.5-hour hike from the Schlegeis Reservoir along well-marked paths that are accessible for different hiking abilities. Sturdy hiking boots and appropriate mountain gear are essential for the trek and your stay at altitude.
The hut is the main base for climbs to the Großer Möseler, a major peak in the area that stands at 3,478 meters (11,411 feet). From here, mountaineers also access the Berlin High Trail, a challenging high alpine route that traverses the surrounding peaks.
