Nürnberger Hütte, building in Tyrol, Austria
The Nürnberger Hütte is a mountain shelter sitting above 7,200 feet (2,200 meters) in the Stubaital and accommodates about 120 people in four dining rooms. The building has roughly 57 beds spread across bedrooms and dormitories, plus a new cozy veranda and outdoor terrace.
The hut was founded in 1886 by people from Nuremberg seeking a mountain retreat, and has expanded several times since its creation. Recent restoration work in 2013 and 2014 preserved its historic character while adding modern improvements.
The hut has been run by the same family for over four generations, bringing a personal touch to the mountain experience. This continuity creates a welcoming atmosphere where visitors feel part of a long tradition of hospitality in the Alps.
The walk from the nearest bus stop takes about three hours on a well-marked trail through forests and mountain roads. Free parking is available at the site, with fees partly refunded if you spend time at the hut.
A winter room with beds, blankets, and a stove is available year-round as an emergency shelter for mountain travelers. This space is free to use but requires visitors to bring their own supplies and leave it clean for others.
