Wiesbadener Hütte, Alpine mountain hut in Gaschurn, Austria
The Wiesbadener Hütte is a mountain hut in the Silvretta range, in the Vorarlberg region of Austria, sitting at around 2443 meters above sea level. It offers beds and meals for walkers and climbers heading into the surrounding peaks, and sits close to several well-known high-alpine routes.
The hut was founded by the Wiesbaden section of the German Alpine Club and has served alpinists exploring the Silvretta since the late 19th century. Over the decades it was enlarged several times to keep up with growing numbers of visitors to the area.
The hut takes its name from the Wiesbaden section of the German Alpine Club, which still owns and runs it today. Guests from across the German-speaking world tend to gather here, sharing tables and comparing routes after a long day on the trails.
From Partenen, a gondola and a chairlift bring visitors up to Bielerhöhe Pass, from where the hut is reachable on foot. Booking a bed in advance is a good idea, especially during summer, when the hut fills up quickly.
Despite having electricity, the hut has no mobile signal and no internet connection, which is still relatively uncommon at this elevation in the Alps. Many guests say this is one of the most unexpected parts of their stay.
