Jagdschloss Gaaden

Jagdschloss Gaaden is a neoclassical hunting lodge located on a 360-hectare private estate in the Vienna Woods south of Gaaden municipality. The main building sits within extensive forest grounds that contain managed populations of wild game and are maintained by a forestry administration.

Karl von Skoda commissioned Munich architect Emanuel von Seidl in 1911 to design this neoclassical building. The estate later took on new purposes during the post-war period.

The lodge served a social purpose after World War Two, functioning as a children's holiday home from 1945 to 1955 under Moritz Fels-Margulies' direction. This transformation shows how private estates were adapted for public benefit during the post-war years.

The entrance gate area features decorative statues and was built in the early 1960s as the main access point. The entire property is privately owned and managed by a forestry administration, so you should check in advance about visiting possibilities.

The estate supports populations of wild boar, red deer, fallow deer, and roe deer living in the extensive forest grounds under managed conditions. These diverse game populations represent a blend of traditional hunting estate practices with contemporary wildlife management.
