Schüsserlbrunn Pilgrimage Church, Pilgrimage chapel in Breitenau am Hochlantsch, Austria.
The Schüsserlbrunn Pilgrimage Church is a wooden chapel located at 1,363 meters (4,472 feet) elevation at the base of steep mountain walls. The building features a simple design suited to its remote alpine setting and religious purpose.
In 1974, the entire chapel was relocated ten meters to a new foundation due to concerns about falling rocks from above. This relocation reflects the ongoing adaptation of the site to the natural hazards of its mountain environment.
The chapel serves as a pilgrimage destination where visitors come to pray, especially during Marian celebrations throughout the year. The site holds spiritual meaning for those who make the journey to this remote mountain location.
Visitors must descend approximately 200 steps from the Steirischer Jokl to reach the chapel. The site is open from May through October and is best visited during stable weather conditions.
The chapel's name comes from natural rock bowls where spring water collects, traditionally used for eye ailments. This natural spring source has drawn pilgrims seeking relief for generations.
