Sabirabad District

The district spans 1,469 square kilometers across the Mil-Mughan Economic Region, bordered by Saatly, Imishli, Kurdamir, Hajigabul, Salyan, and Bilasuvar districts.

The district, established on August 8, 1930, was initially named Petropavlovka after Ukrainian settlers who founded a settlement in the region in 1888.

The district maintains traditional weekly markets that date back to 1868, serving as centers for local commerce and community gatherings throughout the region.

The territory includes 522 kilometers of roads, railway connections, and eight secondary schools, while the district capital Sabirabad sits on the Kura River.

Archaeological excavations in Surra, Javad, and Garatepe have revealed necropolises and settlements dating from the 5th century BCE to the 1st century BCE.
